Since it opened more than 25 years ago, one of my very favorite restaurants has been and is Jaleo, the original Spanish tapas restaurant in the country. Though an American chef helped to set it up the chef during its early years is now well known nationally but no longer in the kitchen, Jose Andres. It is still a great casual place to dine and the bill will be very reasonable if you don’t order caviar & limit alcohol to Sangria. Other great places: minibar (same restaurant group but expensive), Fiola, Old Ebbitt Grill, The Occidental, and Estuary.
