One lucky day, while drawing a map to show a client the locations of shops along Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road, a colleague passed my desk, saw my drawing, and casually mentioned that I had a talent for cartography. She suggested that I make maps professionally.
Giving it some thought, I proceeded to try just that. Each day after work I would teach myself computer-graphics by reading one chapter from an Adobe Illustrator manual. It took over one year’s time to produce the first Red Maps for sale in May of 1998.

Interesting Things to See Amsterdam
Exploring Central Amsterdam
The best way to explore central Amsterdam's charming canals and historic canal houses is on foot. We like to stay in the historic city center called Centrum. From there it's a short walk in any direction to the Museumplein or Vondelpark or the Jordaan neighborhoods. Any path you take in Amsterdam will lead you over picturesque Dutch bridges and through pretty parks and squares.
How to Use Amsterdam's Trams
The trams are how best to get around Amsterdam. Virtually all of them make stops in the city center, primarily at the main rail station. This makes it easy to get to island neighborhoods such as the KNSM and Zeeburg - both of which boast plenty of modern Dutch architecture to see. How to buy Amsterdam Tram tickets
Best of Amsterdam Museums
Of course, see the treasures of the Dutch Golden Age at the Rijksmuseum. The world's greatest collection of van Gogh's artwork can be found at his namesake museum, and make time for the contemporary art at the modernist Stedelijk Museum. BUT, make time for the smaller museums, in particular, FOAM (photography) and the van Loon Huis, to see how a merchant lived in the 17th century.
Hear Live Music in Amsterdam
Make a plan and buy a ticket to a musical event - it's a great way to experience a city. Try any show at the historic Concertgebouw. And if you're lucky, in the summer there are orchestral performances on the canals.
Cool Amsterdam Shops
The best neighborhood in Amsterdam to find those cool, one-of-a-kind shops is the Nine Streets area, located in the Jordaan District. The Nine Streets is comprised of multiple narrow streets and has over one hundred shops and independent labels to explore. We highly recommend visiting the independent design stores called Frozen Fountain and Droog.
Walking Tour of Amsterdam
Take time to stroll in the leafy and tranquil Vondelpark or see the wild animals at the Natura Artis Magistra Park and Zoo. We also like walking in the Jordaan area along the pretty Keizergracht, Herengracht and Leliegracht canals.
