Great hearty cuisine, outdoor musical films, operas, plus an interactive contemporary art show are all happening this spring and summer in Vienna - one of the most interesting cities in all of Europe. We also have some ideas for where to find some of the best Austrian old-world artisans, and our favorite restaurant in Vienna.

What to Do in Vienna

Opera in the Square

Free outdoor concerts by the famous Wiener Staatsoper. From April through June, and again in September, the opera company sets up a huge LED screen and 180 chairs in its plaza.

MuseumsQuartier "Summer in the MQ"

A huge variety of contemporary arts will be performed throughout the museums and courtyards of this cultural campus, located right in the heart of Wien.  There is a film festival called frame[o]ut, literary readings called O-TONE, and Weekend Sounds with acoustical pop-ups.

MQ's courtyards become a lively urban scene to enjoy the night as well.  And of course, see the Leopold Museum's collection of fantastic Egon Schiele & Gustav Klimt paintings.
From June through September.

Vienna Jazz Festival

Happening July 1 - 11 at the Rathaus (City Hall) and the Staatsoper, you can easily schedule one performance a night and see all of Vienna in the daytime.  Perfect.

Vienna Annual Film Festival:  Musicals in the Square

From July 4th to September 6th, there is a free film festival with food purveyors in the plaza of the historic Rathaus.  The movies are musicals and the food is classic Austrian, all of which makes this a fun and special way to enjoy summer nights in Vienna.

Genussfestival  Austrian Cuisine

Happening May 8-10, Genuss is an outdoor gourmet feast that gives you the opportunity to experience the best of Austrian traditional cuisines.  Located in the Wiener Stadtpark.
