Walk the path around the Tidal Basin. Along the way you can stop to visit the Jefferson and Martin Luther King Memorials. DC's largest group of Cherry trees is along the Potomac River's waterfront, located in East Potomac Park.
HISTORY OF DC'S CHERRY BLOSSOM TREES
The Cherry trees were a gift from the People of Japan. Given in February of 1912, there were 3,020 tree specimens of 12 different varieties. An interesting fact, The White House got its own particular variety of Cherry Tree, called the Gyo-i-ko.

WWII Memorial is an expansive monument to the veterans of the great war. With one side of the plaza dedicated to the Atlantic theatre's battles, and the other to the Pacific's.
Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial - The newest monument on the Tidal Basin with King's speeches inscribed on the stone sides of this massive memorial.
Vietnam Veterans Memorial - Designed in 1982 by the architect Maya Lin, its solemn ground-breaking design changed the perception of what a memorial's design and experience can be.
The National Gallery of Art has a wonderful sculpture garden right on The Mall. The vast art collection itself is a must see when in DC.
